Thoughts

My musings and opinions on all the issues that tiny businesses face. From frequently asked questions I come across each week, to hot topics of the moment, if you have a question or issue, you’ll find the answers in this section.

Staying Organised When Working At Home

Working from home may seem ideal, but it brings it’s own challenges, especially if you have children at home - or during the lockdown - children, husbands, partners and pets!
The pandemic has brought a new raft of challenges, when our businesses have to change and adapt to roll with the times, finding new ways to source clients, sell our products and provide our services.
Anxiety and overwhelm may feel like they’re threatening to take over, so keeping in control of your situation, and especially your work and to do lists is vital to staying on the right side of sane!

I thought I’d share with you all some of the products and tips I’ve found most useful before and during lockdown, to see if they could help you too!

Routine:
You need to stay in a routine, even if it’s a different routine to normal. I make sure we’re all up and dressed for a certain time - yes it’s later than it would normally be - but being in PJs all day is not productive for us. It’s like we’re telling ourselves that we’re not really taking the day seriously.
We have set times that we do school work, my own work, we have family meals together at the table and we play board games after our tea to form a new tradition we can all be involved in - something to look back on with fond memories in a dark time - especially for the little ones.

Staying Tidy!:
This is a biggie! With everyone in the house constantly, there is more tidying, more washing up, more EVERYTHING to do. Can you split the jobs between the people in your house? Can you make some chores fun and get the kids involved too? Maybe a rota would help everyone be responsible for their own jobs.
This magnetic board is ideal for keeping everyone in check!

Organisation:
For me, I need to know where everything is, so I can access it quickly. That is especially important for my notes, pens, and planners - and I use LOTS of notebooks! I’m quite old fashioned like that, and LOVE Pen and paper ( I am a self confessed stationery geek!)
One of the products I use all the time and has been an absolute saviour, in my Bookaroo Pen Pouch, which means that my pens are exactly where I need them, everytime I need them. It’s inexpensive, looks great and is really functional. There are lots of crafters who make these too!
Take a look at the Bookaroo Pen Pouches and their range of planner and diary accessories like glasses cases that attach to your notebook and planner accessory organisers!

Reducing Mistakes!
One of my pet hates is writing in a notebook or diary and then making a mistake and having to scribble it out! Erasable pens are magic!!! Best thing EVER!!! There are lots of brands out there, and lots of colour options available, but these are my all time favourites.
