Linking Facebook and Instagram - should you do it?
A question I’m often asked is whether ‘Should I link my Instagram and Facebook pages for my business?”
The pros and cons of linking Facebook to Instagram are numerous, as it is with everything.
Instagram is very much a visual platform, whereas Facebook supports and works better with longer text posts, articles, links and so on, so different content will work better on different platforms, but if you ARE going to link your accounts, it is better to post on Instagram and share to Facebook rather than the other way around.
By linking Instagram to Facebook, you have a fast and easy way to reach more potential customers with the click of one button. Each viewer who follows you on both platforms will be exposed to each post twice, with minimal effort on your part. Repetition is a large part of advertising, so this strategy can work well for helping to get a sales message across, or for brand awareness.
However, think about it from your own point of view. If you followed your favourite brand online, would you want to see different content on the different platforms? Would you mind their message being reinforced on both Instagram and Facebook, or would you get bored of seeing the same posts wherever you went.
This needs some serious consideration before you commit to connecting your accounts.
The other aspect to consider is that if you post to the different platforms individually, you’ll need to create more content, and spend more time posting.
Personally, I wouldn’t link my accounts. I’d want people who see me on Facebook to go to Instagram to find different content, to give them a reason to follow me on there too. With Instagram being more visual. maybe on there you could post about your actual product in a fabulous setting, but on Facebook you could post a quick video of the product being made.
Should you link your Facebook and Instagram pages? Are there any disadvantages of linking Instagram to Facebook? It really depends on how much time you have to invest in creating and publishing posts, and what you’re trying to achieve from your posts.
I hope this helps you with your decision!
